Brooke Farm horticultural and work training

» Welcome To Brooke Farm

In Nottinghamshire there is a well developed and successful horticulture project which provides work training and experience for people with a disability. The project also combines basic education skills with social learning.

The programme is run by Nottinghamshire County Council Social Services and is an integral part of the Countywide Supporters Employment provision which seeks to meet the needs of all disabilities.

There are units throughout the County located at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Worksop and Balderton. The administrative centre and very first site is to be found at Brooke Farm, Linby where all the preparation and packaging of locally grown produce is undertaken.

These units provide a steady supply of fresh vegetables, salad, fruit, free range eggs, shrubs, trees, pot and bedding plants which are sold to the general public. During the soft fruit season 'Pick Your Own' is widely advertised and encouraged.

Recently home produced preserves, pickles and frozen fruit have also been added to the already wide range of quality items for sale which are all available from the sales shop at Brooke Farm.

The project is a registered City and Guilds Centre to deliver NVQ vocational courses, amenity horticulture, word power and number power.

A varied programme of trips, visits and outings are organised to encourage clients to extend their social skills and improve self esteem.

There is always a welcome for anyone wishing to call in at the Brooke Farm shop to see what is on offer. The income from sales of produce helps to offset the running costs of the project.

The County Horticulture and Work Training Programme offers a unique combination of work experience, educational courses and social activities.

Visits by individuals and groups are welcome by contacting the office on (0115) 963 2638 or by e-mail on kenwyn.smith@nottscc.gov.uk
